Welcome to the Journal of My Pacific Crest Trail Thru Hike.
A Journey from Mexico to Canada. Class of 2014
(That was my intention at least. Read my story to find out what happend.)

Can you guess how I got my trail name. "LaZboy"

As if planning to WALK 2650 miles isn't bad enough, now I'm going to write about the whole thing too...

Alright here we go! My name is James aka LaZboy (is my trail name), I'm 29yrs old. I live in Fort Collins Colorado. I'm a bit crazy about hiking which is going to be pretty obvious. I'm hiking the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) in 2014.  I'm really excited about this journal. I look forward to sharing this process with everyone. I really want to document my experiences so family, and friends can follow me on this adventure of a lifetime. I also want to help out other hikers that are inspiring to hike the PCT. I have read many other hiking journals start to finish they have helped me understand what the PCT is all about. I am really looking forward to have this journal to look back on, relive the moments and remember the people and friendships made along the way.  I couldn't have imagined in my wildest dreams the generosity and kindness of the people I have met. I have made friends for life with these people. Forged through the good times and the true grit of the trail. This is the most amazing experience of our lifes...

PCT Mid Point Monument

Questions I get asked the most (FAQ's):
  • What is the PCT?
  • How many miles is it? 2663 ish
  • Why?
  • Are you going to carry a gun on the PCT?  haha NO I'm not going to carry a gun. They aren't needed and my pack is already going to be too heavy. Enough said.

My Start Date: 4/22/14
I left Colorado on April 21 and flew to San Diego, CA. I was Picked up from the Airport and hosted at Trail Angels house Scout and Frodo. Absolutely amazing people.  I hit the trail in the morning on the 22nd. Let the fun begin.

Kick off ! 4/25 & 4/26
ADZPCTKO yeah baby It was awesome!!!!!
Annual Day Zero PCT Kick Off is at Lake Morena County Park. I started at the border and hiked the first 20 miles into Morena. l had a great opportunity to test my gear and make any final adjustments at ADZ I am so glad too. I ended up sending my Gregory Pack back to the manufacture and bought an awesome SixMoon Design back pack. Brain who used to own ULA designed this pack and was at kick off and actually adjusted the pack fit it to me perfectly! I also downsized my tent while I was in San Diego.
